VFW Patch False, He spent a little over a year and a half before he was booted from the Army. He was never in combat and doesn't qualify for membership. His local VFW said they do offer those who don't qualify, the ability to aquire a social membership on a very limited basis. They said he is not one of them.

First Sergeant rank False, He spent a little over a year and a half before he was given a dishonorable discharge and booted from the Army as an E-1 PVT

Airborne Tab False, he never attended, much less graduated Airborne School.

Glider Badge False, The Army recinded this on 3 May 1961; however, it remained authorized for wear by those who earned it. 3 years before he was born.

Ranger Tab False, he never attended, much less graduated Ranger School.

Combat Infantry Badge False, he never was deployed much less in combat. He never left Ft Campbell Ky.

101st patch False, He was never assigned to the 101st

82nd Patch False, He was never assigned to the 82nd

Armor/CAV gold shoulder cord False, He was a non Airborne leg dump truck driver

Ranger Scroll False, He was never assigned to any Ranger unit.

Special Forces Patch False, he was never assigned to any Special Forces unit.

Special Forces Long Tab False, he never attended, much less graduated the Special Forces Qualification Course

 In his video, he says his "Best Friend" died in his arms 1000% False. He never left Ft Campbell 

Per former GF in an email: He was in Somalia, Iraq and was a member of black hawk down.  False, as a side note, Blackhawk Down was a movie, not a unit.

Per former GF in an email: He said he was in special forces and got shot 3 times while overseas. False, never SF, never in combat, never shot.

Per former GF in an email: He said that the time magazine cover of the soldier who was pissing on Saddam's statue was him. False, he was never in Iraq or on any cover

He was assigned to the 20th Engineer Battalion, Ft Campbell Ky as a Dump Truck driver before he was given a dishonorable discharge.

My name is JXXXX CXX and I have some information to add to your story on this person. The only thing I ask is that you not mention me by name. 

I was in a relationship with Joel for 3 years, from 2008 to end of 2011. In that time he was in prison for over a year on an old charge and a OVI that he got while in my car. He was on parole in summit county and Cuyahoga county at the same time after he was released. After he got out, he was working for a tree trimmer and fell out of a tree he was cutting and broke his leg in 3 places. I was the one who took care of him while he was laid up. His parole officer would have to come to my house for his visits because he wasn't able to get into the office. He told me in the years we were together that he was an Army Ranger with the 101st airborne division, He was in Somalia, Iraq and was a member of black hawk down. 

He said he was in special forces and got shot 3 times while overseas. He said that the time magazine cover of the soldier who was pissing on Saddam's statue was him. The best friend that died in his arms, I heard that story over and over again, his name was Kenny, I don't remember his last name. He also said his combat captain was a gentleman who lived in Springfield, Ohio. he said that when he died, he left him his house and property, never saw any of it. when he started living with me and my kids, I asked him where his benefits were if he had such a service record. he told me that he recently mustered out and there was a backlog and they haven't gotten to him yet. He never got anything the whole time he was with us.

I had a next door neighbor who was a Korean vet and he also firmly believed in his stories. He is a very heavy drinker, and would get extremely violent with me and my kids. He said he was too torn up by the things he saw in combat. He also told me that he was based in Washington dc and would pull duty in Arlington cemetery, he also said he was a soldier who guarded the tomb of the unknown soldier. also said he participates in military funerals.

I wanted to believe him, but i was skeptical, I just had no way of accessing his military records to confirm what he was telling me. I know that he is a member of the VFW post in Akron Ohio near Firestone park, and when I was with him, he belonged to the Mogadore Ohio chapter. 

We broke up because he was extremely drunk one night and was berating me all day long about how I am a worthless person and I don't deserve to live, if i would drop dead in front of him he would throw a party, all the things he always said when he was drunk. Then the next day, he would claim he didn't remember what he said, he was in a PTSD blackout. He had me so beat down I started to believe it, that night I had finally had enough and I started fighting back, it escalated to the point where he had me pinned down on the bed, he was straddling me from above and looked down at me and I could see the hate and crazy in his eyes. he kept saying I was worthless and i should thank my lucky stars that he loves me, but he wants to strangle the life out of me and watch the light dim from my eyes. 

I told him he gets one hit so you better make it count because you won't have the chance to have another. He narrowed his eyes, reared back and clocked me with his full force in my jaw. He got up and walked out of the room, and I got away and went downstairs to my kids, when they found out what he had done, my daughter called the cops and my son escorted him to the door with a baseball bat. He was arrested and got out and charges were dropped. I kicked him out of the house and attempted to cut ties with him, he didn't go quietly. he told me he was going to make my life miserable and he attempted to do just that. 

 I did a records search to see where he was and I saw that he in jail again for a year. I also looked at his court docket when he was appealing for judicial release. His fiancé had sent a letter to the judge with his social security hearing information attached to it. While he was serving his sentence, he applied for disability and got it on the first try, citing service related injuries. He said that all his medical problems were service related and he got it!
