We were sent Merrick Donnelly by several people who work with him. They all say he claims to be a Green Beret.

We told the initial email that we can't move forward as we don't do an article if it's only a single person sending in an email and there's no other proof. That sender said they could get many other co-workers to write a statement also, so we waited. When

As we waited for those statements to arrive, we were sent a link to a podcast where Merrick Donnelly was interviewed.

We checked the schoolhouse and saw Merrick Donnelly doesn't show up as having ever attempted any type of SOF training at Ft Bragg.

So, we requested records from NPRC and HRC. While we waited for records, additional emails filtered in with others stating they had heard him claim to be a Green Beret.

Once we received his records, we called him, and he said he never really claimed to be a Green Beret and should have corrected the misunderstanding at its onset.

During the call, he said he'd send in an apology letter, which he did, yet it required us to do a follow-up call to clarify issues in his apology.

In his apology email, he said the podcast guy was told to not bring up his military history and did so anyway. We felt we should clarify that with the podcast guy and you can see he remembers it a different way.

We were also told that Merrick wears an SF lanyard with his company access card on it. Merrick says a legit Green Beret gave that to him.

Merrick Donnelly asserts he never tried to perpetuate the lie, only failed to correct it in those calls. yet how does he explain this that he shared?

We strongly believe that Merrick Donnelly not only didn't correct the lie initially like he said he should have done but continued it for years afterward.

After the article went public, we received several emails and calls which are in direct conflict with Merrick Donnelly claiming he never tried to perpetuate the lie that he was a Green Beret. They also claim he's said he was a Warrant, a Ranger, A US Marshal, has 30 rental properties, and that his records are classified. We can confirm that Ranger, Warrant, Special Forces, and military combat are all lies. We were told his other claims are also lies yet we haven't taken the time to confirm.
