This begins with a FB message from a female who wanted help clearing her husband's (Travis Haney) name. Apparently another site called him a poser. We were told that all his records were burned by his ex wife and that he basically refused to fight with them about it.
After several messages from her and a couple from him, We determined his claims to be a former 18A 1LT in Special Forces. He was discharged supposedly when a flash grenade went off and burned his eyes. He claimed time in 3rd and 5th Groups. We asked for additional info but the only other responses were that he didn't keep in touch with anyone because most "never made it back". His story sounded a little suspicious to us in the beginning.
The fact that he says he was a 1LT in itself raised flags. There were no Special Forces qualified 1LT's in SF at that time. In order to be an officer in SF an individual had to be a promotable 1LT when he started training and promoted to CPT prior to completing SF training. In our research we ran across several documents which appear to be forged. The DD214 states "18A Special Operations Officer" in paragraph 11. This is not a job title in the Army. The correct title would be "Special Forces Officer". It also says "5 years". It would be impossible for an individual to be a 1LT in Special Forces for 5 years. In paragraph 13. neither the Special Forces Tab nor Basic Parachutist Badge are not listed, which they would be. Basic Airborne and Special Training are not not listed in block 14.
His real records show that he was in the service from October 5, 2004 to Feb 17, 2005 and was a Private First Class (PFC) when he was discharged. He served a total of 4.5 months. The record does not show why he was discharged. (labeled official records part 1 and 2)
We also attached a copy of the email I received from the Special Forces school that indicates that they have no record of Travis attending any Special Forces courses there. (SWCS email)
We have talked to a female who has stated that the forged DD214 he uses is actually hers with a few changes.
Travis Haney, you'll forever be added to The Guardians of the Green Beret Hall of Shame.
